Cheap Thrills

December 3, 2007

Halloween can cause frightening affects on your budget, between costumes, candy and home décor, it is no wonder many of us feel less than festive.

With good timing and a well thought out holiday budget your Halloween festivities can be Spooktacular. For wickedly wild costumes that are frugal friendly, begin rummaging thru your closets, attic, basements, and garages. If the pickings are slim, ask family members if you can pilfer thru their old clothing and no longer needed items.

For an aspiring princess, look thru your closet for dresses that are either too small or you no longer wear, with a little glitter and ribbon you will be amazed at the results. A Ninja costume can be created with an old black shirt and a belt, and in the blink of an eye, you have created a Budget Black belt.

Another great resource where budget consciousness is always paramount is your local thrift shop. Not only will you find a wealth of clothing to work with you may also find costumes that are in need of a new home.

For those of you who are handy with a sewing machine, most any costume you little ones may want can be easily and economically created.

In order to create a haunted house, you should begin purchasing your home décor, immediately after the Halloween. Most stores will have drastically reduced the prices of the Halloween merchandise, which makes decorating on a budget a breeze. Here is a great opportunity to use your creative juices, transform everyday items into ghoulish creations. Have a spot designated for broom parking, you can even place a 2 large bowls on the porch for your werewolf, I even added an old dog collar donated from a family member with a large dog, I hooked the collar to a length of chain and tied near the doorway.

Now for the treats, you will hand out, clip your coupons, and be on the look out (all year long) for sales. Remember candy will keep, even chocolate can be frozen until needed. Be sure to hide the goodies to ensure they will be available to you when needed.

Budget consciousness, does not mean you should forego holiday spirit. Simply engage your creativity, and implement a good spending strategy, and you are sure to have a howling Halloween.
