Healthy Eating

Above: Healthy foods

Some people usually revolve their diet around meat and use fruits and vegetables for side dishes when actually they should be focusing more on eating wheat based food, fruits and vegetables as main course and just have meat on the side.

Having your diet around vegetables and fruits is actually one key of being healthy without over spending and in some cases lets you save money from buying food.

Here are 7 tips on Eating Healthy food on a Budget;

  • Prepare Food on the Go

Usually when you go out you would spend for food and other activities. So instead of eating out, you can just bring food with you in the car, store some snacks there for you to grab anytime when you’re hungry.

  • Eat at Home

If you know you won’t be out the whole day and you can stay at home for lunch, dinner or so, it is better to opt to. This will help you save a lot. When you’re going out at night to party or drink out, have dinner first at home so you don’t have to spend for food while you’re out. When you’re about to go out for errands, you can have lunch at home before you leave. No matter what, don’t leave the house with an empty stomach.

  • Cook from Scratch

When you go out grocery shopping, you’ll notice that it actually costs more to buy ready made food than to start it form scratch. If you know how to cook and you have to time, home-cooked meals are always healthy and advisable. This will also minimize the risk of eating unhealthy preservatives found in ready to eat or microwavable food.

  • Plan Your Food In Advance

Actually have a plan on what you’ll be having for the whole week including snacks. This will help you be aware of not buying anything unnecessary, or over buying that might just eventually be put to waste.

  • Look at the Unit Price

Compare prices by the unit price not just by the price itself. I bigger can of beans may seem more expensive that a smaller one but once you check the unit price, buying a bigger can of beans may actually turn out to be cheaper.

  • Buy in Bulk if Necessary

It’s always a given that you’ll get to save more when you buy more. For example, a pack of something will tend to make you save more than buying per piece of it. But once again, make sure that you actually need it and you will be able to consume all of it, because wasting it will lose the whole sense of saving.

  • Read the Nutrition Facts

In eating healthy, you always have to consider the Nutrition Facts of a product. Two products in comparison would actually have the same price or may look the same but perhaps one of them would actually be more nutritious than the other. So it’s always essential to consider such so that you will really get your money’s worth.
