More Budget Friendly Costumes

December 3, 2007

Halloween costumes, take up a huge part of your holiday budget, however, you can alleviate some of the financial burden by designing your own costumes.

The following is a brief look at some very budget friendly costumes, which are sure to please your children as well as your wallet.

Halloween simply would not be Halloween with a hobo making the trick or treat rounds. Without investing one cent, you can create a great hobo costume. Raid, your husbands closet or better yet, go to grandpa’s house and raid his closet or garden shed. Top off with a tattered hat and some five o’clock shadow, I used homemade face paint. However if your budget allows you can purchase face paint or use some cheap (dollar store) mascara.

Another traditional Halloween costume to make on a budget is a clown, big clothes, extra small clothes will work well, mismatched shoes or a pair of dad’s old shoes, or sneakers would be ideal. Grab a glue gun and turn an old hat into a clowns holiday headwear, embellish with fake flowers the bigger the better.

Ghosts are another cost effective way to have a spooktacular Halloween. If you are lucky, you may find an old white bed sheet, if you do not have one available, visit your local discount store or dollar store and purchase one for under $5. Cut out the eye holes and a haunting you will go.

Other great ideas that are also budget friendly, include, an angel, a geek, and a rock star. All can be put together for under $5 apiece.

As you can see, there will be no need to Boo-hoo over your Halloween budget this year. By using the above suggestions, your kids will look great and you will feel great just knowing you saved a ton of cash.
